Arcus was appointed to undertake the demolition of Moston Campus, a former college building in East Manchester, and act as both Contract Administrator and Principal Designer for the scheme. Following demolition, Arcus have been appointed as Employer’s Agent and Principal Designer to oversee the design and construction of 60 new homes (50 houses, 10 apartments) across three tenures; Rent to Buy, Affordable Rent and Social Rent.
The project commenced in June 2022 with a timber frame approach to the houses and a traditional masonry approach to the apartment block. Considerable groundwork was needed ahead of the construction of the homes that included the reconstruction of a Victorian brick culvert in poor condition, which passed through the site and required repairing and diverting.
Following the extensive formation of roads, together with a cut and fill exercise and provision of retaining structures to make the site developable, construction has progressed at speed with works forecast to complete 8 weeks ahead of the contract completion date.
