Arcus has been chosen as the Retrofit Designer and Principal Designer for improvements works to two 15-story tower blocks in Salford. This is part of Phase 2 of the ‘Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund’, which aims to upgrade social housing to be more energy-efficient (up to Energy Performance Certificate C level) using both provided funds and the client’s own resources.
The goal of the project is to improve the thermal performance and maintenance requirements of the existing building fabric, making it more comfortable and cost efficient for residents and reducing maintenance expenses. The planned work includes:
- External Wall Insulation (EWI)
- Installing Ground Source Heat Pumps
- Renewing the roof, including safety features and equipment for working at heights
- Replacing windows and doors
- Upgrading through-wall extractor fans
- Balcony concrete and concrete lattice removal/repairs
- Relocating door access points
- Updating lightning protection
- Upgrading the AOV system
- Upgrading the building entrance and canopies
Arcus has been involved with the project from the start and we will continue to be involved throughout to ensure safety, high-quality work, and compliance with the retrofit measures. The Arcus Retrofit Designers on the project are qualified professionals, including RIBA Architects and MCIAT Architectural Technologists.
